"Planting Seeds for a Greener Future"
A letter from our Parents Guild:
The Parents Guild is pleased to announce the continued effort to enrich our school community by dedicating two years of Gala proceeds to create greener spaces and practices at SRDS. This important goal demands greater attention and dedication than a one year effort can yield, therefore, we are excited for Gala 2018 and the opportunity to further impact this transformative two year project.
An initial step in our commitment to “Greener Spaces” was the Lower School playground. In 2017, this project paired Middle School students with Lower School students to research and design the renovation of the outdoor playground. This was a dynamic, interdisciplinary project involving collaboration, critical thinking, 3-D design, engineering, math, art and fun! Students worked together with an architect and enjoyed learning through a real-life project on our own campus. As further proof of our school’s commitment to greener spaces, the old playground was donated and recycled. This project came to fruition last September when the new playground was erected as a community build.
The proceeds from this year’s Gala will continue to fund a project that focuses on campus-wide environmental practices, awareness and efficiencies. This major initiative is the renovation of our kitchen and will include the installation of a commercial dishwasher system to reduce excessive paper and plastic waste.
Please join us for an amazing evening on Saturday, April 14th at the Alpine Country Club to support this fundraiser for our children, our school and our community.
Many thanks for your support! The Parents Guild of Saddle River Day School
