Innovative experiences outside the classroom is one hallmark of an SRDS education where students often have the opportunity to travel off campus in order to "experience" concepts that are taught in the classroom in a practical, hands-on setting. These experiences enhance the overall learning process at SRDS and prepare our students for success in college and beyond.
Recently, the Business and Entrepreneurship class had a special opportunity to go to Metlife Stadium for Jets Business Day. The class had an opportunity to tour facilities such as the locker room, commissioner's club, and the business suites, and hear from professionals working for the Jets in various departments such as marketing, sales, and communications. The trip was capped off with students going onto the field and taking in the sights.
Last week, the officers of the SRDS Future Business Leaders of America, who are also students in the Business and Entrepreneurship class, had the privilege of attending Quake Capital’s Demo Day. Quake Capital is a startup accelerator and venture capital firm. On the October 24th, they held a demo night for 16 startups they have already invested in with the goal of connecting their companies to additional outside investors. The students enjoyed this great opportunity to watch and listen to the pitches that the entrepreneurs presented to investors. It was an enjoyable and insightful experience. All four students, and Upper School Head, Jalaj Desai, agreed that the experience was useful and educational, in addition to being a fun outing. Watching an application of what the students are learning in class not only benefits them in class, but also motivates them to practice their skills and realize returns in the form of the sort of high quality presentations they saw on the demo night.
