Students Gain Valuable Experience through Summer Internships
This summer, Upper School students took the opportunity to gain valuable work experience through internships in a variety of fields.
One of the hallmarks of an SRDS education includes engagement in project-based learning. PBL allows students the opportunity to ask complex questions and to solve real-world problems. As a result, students develop deep content knowledge as well as critical thinking, creativity, and communication skills in the context of doing authentic, meaningful projects. Summer internships provide another means for students to experience learning outside of the classroom.
At Mercedes-Benz of Nanuet, Aiden Schwartz '19 helped with blogging, uploading content to the social media and YouTube sites, attending golf outings as an "eye-witness for hole-in-ones," and doing basic administrative work. Aiden Lavrich '20 says, "The internship at Mercedes-Benz of Nanuet has been a great opportunity to build up my interpersonal skills and the ability to research a product using the internet." Thanks to SRDS parent Rich Hesse for giving our students this fantastic opportunity!
Luke Klasman '19 worked with Kevin Tuve, who serves as the Director of Scouting for the Rockland Boulders. As part of his internship duties, Luke recorded pitch velocities and tracked stats for games. He also had the opportunity to assist with the Boulders try outs by gathering information the coaches needed to help make decisions about players.
Stephen Savas and Ben Herman '19 gained valuable experience as interns in an online advertising company called Infolinks. They were able to learn from the inside what it's like to run a small business including day to day operations, marketing strategies to increase exposure and gain customers, and much more. Their main jobs were focused on outreach to increase clientèle and they both realized very quickly how difficult it can be to build a small business and grow a customer base.
Saddle River Day School is committed to offering innovative experiences outside the classroom like student internships in order to prepare our students for college and beyond.
