For the conclusion of their history class, eighth grade students debated the pro or con side regarding American foreign policy leading up to WWII.
Students researched and provided evidence for either the pro or con side of two debate propositions:
1. The United States should have abandoned its isolationist position and entered World War II before Pearl Harbor. 2. The United States made the right decision to use the atom bomb on Japan in August, 1945.
The theme of this final unit on American foreign policy engaged students as they explored how the economic, social, and cultural changes in the 20th Century transformed the United States into a world power.
