Students are Recognized for Excellence at Annual Berklee Jazz Festival
The Upper School Jazz Ensemble and Rebel Tones Choir performed at the prestigious Berklee High School Jazz Festival in Boston.
Berklee College of Music hosts its High School Jazz Festival at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston, Massachusetts. Berklee’s annual event is the largest of its kind in the United States, free, and open the public.
Big bands, combos, and vocal jazz ensembles performed and competed throughout the day. All ensembles were adjudicated by a panel of Berklee’s top faculty and received a written critique of their performances. Top-ranked ensembles were awarded partial scholarships to Berklee’s Five Week Summer Performance Program, and individual students were invited to audition for tuition scholarships towards the full-time program or their Five Week Summer Performance Program.
The day’s events also included performances by Berklee faculty, tours of Berklee’s campus, open jam sessions, and much more.
Ensembles performed in competing categories determined by school size, or chose to participate in a non-competing category. All participating ensembles were adjudicated by a panel of Berklee’s top faculty, followed up by a written critique of the performance.
Congratulations to Gabe Hefta '18 and Danielle Moore '18 for receiving "Outstanding Soloist" awards by the festival judges. Also thanks to Erick Storckman, Fine Arts Department Chair and Bogna McGarrigle, Choral Director for arranging this wonderful field trip for our students.
