Young Alumni Share Stories About Their Life in College

Northwestern, Smith, Boston University and Oberlin were amongst the colleges and universities represented by our young alum as they returned to campus on Wednesday, December 20th.

Graduates from the Classes of 2013-2017 returned to campus to share with current SRDS students what life at college is REALLY like as Ryan Neumann, Class of 2016 MC'd our fourth annual young alum "Surviving and Thriving in College" panel discussion.

The panel was asked questions like "Which teacher/class inspired you the most at SRDS?" to "What advice can you give about time management?" and "Do you think you've changed as a person since you began college?" Members of the panel "agreed" or "disagreed" with answers based upon their own experiences.

Brittany Rodriguez '15, who is continuing her studies at Smith College spoke to how her experience at SRDS has had a direct impact on her success at college. In addition to receiving a very strong academic foundation, particularly in the Humanities and writing, Brittany was the Stage Manager for the SRDS theatre department where she gained great confidence in her ability to be a leader. She is continuing to pursue theatre management as a major and child studies and education for her minor.
It is always heartwarming when students return to campus who have graduated in recent years to visit former classmates and reconnect with teachers. A common theme from these young alum is how they "miss SRDS" and realize what a special place it is, now more than ever. For these young people, it feels like coming "home" again. But more importantly, the common experience of how well-prepared they each felt when they began college is a sentiment that is echoed time and time again.

We take great pride in watching our young alumni grow academically and personally as they embark on the next chapter of their lives and look forward to seeing our students next year again for this wonderful annual event.
