SRDS Honorable Use Policy

We inspire each child to achieve personal excellence and to become a caring and ethical contributor to society. We realize we have responsibilities as citizens of our school community as well as our digital community. As such, all students are required to read and agree to our Honorable Use Policy. Keep in mind that the HUP remains in full effect during remote learning sessions.

Lower School Honorable Use Policy (HUP)

As members of the SRDS Community, we will use technology responsibly by acting in a considerate, safe, and ethical manner. We understand that ethical use of technology extends beyond the school day and our buildings. We will be mindful of how we present ourselves online and understand that our words have the power to affect others and our own safety.

*All electronic devices brought to campus are subject to the HUP.

1. I will treat all technology, devices, resources and equipment with care and respect.

2. I will use school accounts and technology only to do school work and not for any other reason. I will only use SRDS approved software and websites.

3. I will not give my password to anyone else, and I will not ask for or use anyone else's password.

4. I will not take credit for other people's work.

5. I will not upload, link or embed an image of myself or others without my teacher's permission.

6. I will be mindful of the environment by reducing what I print.

7. I will not play games that a teacher has not approved. I will only use personal devices before and after school and when my teacher allows it.

8. I  will be polite and considerate when I use the computer. I will not use it to threaten, tease, bully or frighten anyone. I will not use inappropriate language and will tell my teacher if someone has sent me inappropriate messages or images.

9. I understand that using technology is a privilege and may be limited if I do not use it responsibly.

10. I understand that the HUP is a living document and may be changed by the School. I understand that the HUP also applies to when I use computers outside of school if it interferes with other students' education.

This policy articulates the overarching parameters for students’ use of technology at Saddle River Day School. It is expected that each division will implement it through procedures that are appropriate for the developmental level of their students. The administration retains the right to monitor, restrict or terminate user access to the computer network and school devices at any time, for any reason.
