Information for New Families

Welcome to Saddle River Day School!

Congratulations and welcome!  On behalf of the entire school community, I want to assure you that we will work hard to prepare your child for success at SRDS and beyond.

Our goal is to make your transition to SRDS as seamless as possible. Please feel free to contact the Office of Admissions if we can be of assistance.

2026-2027 Significant Dates

Placement Testing and Information Sessions

Placement TestinG

Placement testing communication from March

For students entering grades: 8th-11th grade

  • Monday, April 20th at 3:30 in the Senior Commons, North Hall.  Contact Kris Sweeny if you have not already done so (ksweeny@saddleriverday.org)
  • New 9th-11th graders will take English, history, and world language (if continuing a language at SRDS)
  • New 8th graders will only take a world language test if they are continuing with the same language.  8th graders DO NOT take English and history placement tests.  

Academic Planning Sessions for new 9th-11th graders

  • An email will be sent out in mid-April to schedule these personalized meetings 
  • New 9th graders meet with Geoff Bowman or Kris Sweeny
  • New 10th and 11th graders meet with Geoff Bowman and Karen Ferretti, Director of College Counseling

Middle School Accelerated Testing in Math and Science

  • Monday, May 18th at 3:30 pm in the Senior Commons, North Hall
  • Middle School Testing for Math (new 5th-8th) and Advanced Science (new 7th-8th grade)
  • ** An email will be sent out in mid-April with registration information and more details

Early Childhood
New PreK 3 and PreK 4 Parents 
Wednesday, May 13th 8:45 am in the CIE, Main Hall

Lower School 
New Kindergarten- 4th grade
Thursday, May 28th at 10:00 am in the CIE, Main Hall
LS Kick-Off Event for students will run at the same time as parent information session.  Student drop off at 9:45 am at Main Hall
The program ends after lunch at 11:30 am.  Parents are welcome to stay for pizza

Middle School
New 5th - 8th grade; for parents and students
Tuesday, May 19th at 5:30 pm in the CIE, North Hall

Upper School 
New 9th- 11th grade; for parents and students
Tuesday, May 19th at 5:30 pm in the PAC, Alford Hall

FINAL TRANSCRIPT REQUEST FORM FOR MIDDLE AND UPPER SCHOOLS

This form will authorize the release of a final transcript from your previous school.  For families with a child joining Grades 5-12 in the fall, please sign and submit this form to your current school to have them send your child's final transcript to SRDS.

COURSE SELECTIONS AND SCHEDULING – MIDDLE AND UPPER SCHOOL

The list of assigned classes will be available via email by early June, and final schedules will be on the portal in August.  Please contact your respective divisional head if you have questions.

TEXTBOOK ORDERING – K–12

Once student course selections are determined, families are responsible for ordering textbooks for courses. For the book list of corresponding textbooks, please refer to the list below during the summer months or contact your respective divisional dean for questions. New York state residents, please contact your local Board of Education to inquire about textbook loan programs.

PARENT PORTAL LOGIN INFORMATION - ALL GRADES

Portal login information will be emailed to parents by Deirdre Angrick (dangrick@saddleriverday.org), Academic Dean, in mid-August.

Dress code and uniform under review for all divisions.  Updated 4/9/26
