Saddle River Day School welcomed 370+ students in grades PreK-3 through 12 last week on Thursday, September 9th despite Mother Nature's best attempts to thwart opening day. Students were excited to be back on campus and engaged in learning and spending time with their friends and teachers once again. There were numerous changes to the campus to accommodate for growth in enrollment and program including a repurposed North Hall library space that now serves as an active Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE), a newly added "lunchroom" (repurposed back gym) and the addition of a full PreK-3 class as part of our Early Childhood Program (PreK-3, 4 & K) in Main Hall.
In addition, SRDS has added after school programming. The Coaching Academy includes 24 exciting after-school offerings for students in all grades such as: Disaster Island: A STEAM Adventure, Reading and Creating of the Graphic Novel, Intermediate Chess, The Coffee House, Meteorology and How the Stock Market Works. The program will be directed by Erica Cohen.
SRDS will also be offering a Music Institute for the first time. Students who wish to advance their skills on a musical instrument may take private lessons, taught by accomplished professional musicians who are fine educators. Greater proficiency with an instrument brings greater enjoyment for students, enables them to become leaders in their school music program, and, with sustained commitment, can enhance their college admissions opportunities. SRDS Fine Arts Department Chair Erick Storckman will be coordinating this program.
Varsity athletics also kicked off its fall season after practicing since August 23rd. The Lady Rebels soccer team posted a win over Midland Park last Friday, 4-0 and the boys soccer team played Bogota in their season opener. Women's volleyball also had their first match last Friday at home vs Park Ridge. Check out the Fall sports schedules on our SRDS Athletics website and come out and support your Rebels!
