The Rise of the RoboRebels

The Rise of the RoboRebels
Communications

Founded in 2019 as a student- and parent-driven initiative, the SRDS RoboRebels robotics program has grown into one of New Jersey’s top FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) teams. Supported by the SRDS Fund and the generosity of some SRDS families, the program exemplifies how continued philanthropy fuels innovative, hands-on learning opportunities.

Each season, students design, build and code a robot from scratch—developing skills in engineering, collaboration, problem-solving and resilience. Beyond competition, team members gain real-world experience through project management, documentation and community outreach.

Over a five-year span, the team has steadily succeeded in competition, earning county, state and even world recognition. The RoboRebels’ success continues, with a recent exceptional performance at the Bergen County League Tournament earlier this month:
✨ Team 31255 earned the Innovate Award
✨ Team 14450 captured the Control Award and finished as First Place Alliance Captain, qualifying for the State Tournament

Today, the RoboRebels are ranked:
 🥇 #1 in New Jersey | 🇺🇸 #47 in the U.S. | 🌍 #101 globally

From its early beginnings to state-bound success, the SRDS robotics program continues to thrive—preparing students for a future shaped by innovation and supported by a generous school community.
