Broadway Veteran Eric Sciotto Returns to Direct "Freaky Friday"

Rehearsals are well underway for the upcoming musical "Freaky Friday," an American musical comedy and Disney film with the screenplay written by Mary Rodgers and based on her 1972 novel by the same name. 

Single mother Katherine and her teenage daughter Ellie couldn't be more different, and it is driving them both insane. After receiving cryptic fortunes at a Chinese restaurant, the two wake up the next day to discover that they have somehow switched bodies. Unable to switch back, they are forced to masquerade as one another until a solution can be found. In the process, they develop a new sense of respect and understanding for one another.  

Director Eric Sciotto has appeared in 12 Broadway shows, including The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Rock of Ages, Cry-Baby, 42nd Street, Aida, and Something Rotten!  He spent this past summer appearing in the California based company Musical Theatre West’s production of Nice Work if You Can Get It in the role of Jimmy Winters, appeared with the Boston Pops at Tanglewood, taught multiple acting and dance programs and directed and choreographed shows for @BroadwayTheaterWorkshops and other summer programs. He is passionate about the benefits a theater program brings to students. “Nothing is more thrilling to me than seeing a person push past a boundary, grow in ways they didn’t know were possible, and discover more about themselves in the process. Theater touches people. It may be the story itself or something a character is going through, a poignant moment in a song, a memory of a person from another time or a moment that is so relevant to what the audience member is going through at that very time in their lives. There is no prediction about what may cause that connection but the gift of theater is to allow an artist the opportunity to break through and connect with their audience. Working with students, watching them rise to the occasion and understand the importance of their work is what fuels my heart and my spirit. It is why, after 12 Broadway shows and 20+ years of performing, I keep coming back for more.” The highly talented new SRDS Musical and Choral Director, Tyler Capa will be accompanying and directing the pit ensemble for the show. Tyler began his tenure at SRDS this past Fall and has worked with many of Broadway's young and rising starts including Antonio Cipriano ("Jagged Little Pill") and Rachel Zegler (Maria in Steven Spielberg's upcoming film remake of "West Side Story.")

"Freaky Friday" opens in the SRDS Alford Hall Performing Arts Center on Friday, March 1st at 7:00pm. Shows will also run on Saturday, March 2nd at 7:00pm and Sunday, March 3rd at 2:00pm. You won't want to miss this fun-filled musical that is suitable for all audiences.
