Vive La France - FREX Students on Campus
For Pictures from FREX 2008, See SRDS's new Gallery!
French
Exchange students arrived at SRDS on April 18 and are enjoying their
time on campus during the FREX Exchange program that will run until May
second when our French visitors will board the plane for the return
trip home.
FREX is
Saddle River Day School’s own two-year French exchange program with the
Lycée Montchapet in Dijon, France. The Lycée Montchapet is
located in Dijon, the beautiful capital of Burgundy. It is
midway between Paris and Lyon. On alternate years SRDS students travel
to France and live as individual members of French families whose
children attend the Lycée Montchapet. This involves attending
school with our French “sisters” or “brothers” and participating in the
life of the host family. This year, our families welcome the
French “brothers” or “sisters” to our homes. They attend
classes on campus and sample life as an American private school student
at Saddle River Day School with us. We enjoy the time spent with our
French visitors particularly to show off the campus and activities
during our milestone 50th Anniversary year.
FREX seeks
to motivate and facilitate the learning of the French language and
culture for our students by allowing the student to experience life as
a native French person. It promotes international
understanding and friendship. From the French side of the Atlantic,
this provides a direct brief immersion experience into the American
culture and helps the French students to improve their English speaking
skills.
